Experience Summary
Air One Labs is a small, highly regarded environmental chemistry laboratory serving California and other western states. Air One is currently operating in Vista, CA and has created a fixed base laboratory facility dedicated to the analysis of low level volatile organic compounds in ambient and indoor air as well as low level soil gas investigations.
Air One was originally Mobile One Laboratories, Inc. and had been providing clients expert field sampling, on-site mobile lab and in-house analysis services in California for over eighteen years. Mobile One sold the field sampling and analysis services division in May of 2008. As mentioned above, Mobile One started operations in 1990 to provide on-site support for leaking underground storage tank (LUST) cleanup operations. Since then, the company grew and added capabilities to include many types of field sampling and analysis services, as well as in- house analysis. In addition to having analyzed hundreds of thousands of samples over the course of its nineteen year history, the lab's staff pioneered some unique techniques used both in the field and in regional in-house laboratories. Mobile One was the first "mobile only" laboratory to be accredited by the state of California Environmental Lab Accreditation Program (CA-ELAP). We also built and operated the first mobile labs performing EPA Method 8260B in the field in the State of California. Five years ago, we developed the first mobile labs to perform EPA Method TO-15 in the field as well. With the sale of the "mobile" division, Air One Labs was born. We have acquired a set of state of the art analytical equipment to continue to serve clients needing low level air analysis. We invite all inquiries and are pleased to discuss all aspects of our services.

Dr. James Picker
Education
- Ph.D.,Chemistry - University of Colorado, Boulder, CO - 1981
- BS, Chemistry - Fordham University
- Bronx, N.Y. - 1972
Experience
- 2008-present Air One Labs, Vista CA . Dr. Picker is the founder and co-owner of Air One. He serves as technical director and senior analyst in Air One's new laboratory. The laboratory is specifically designed to analyze low level and rapid turnaround volatile organics in ambient and indoor air and low level soil gas.
- 1998-2008 Managing partner/technical director of H&P Mobile Geochemistry
- 1990-2008 / Co-founder and Vice President of MOL, an environmental laboratory specializing in chemical analysis in the field. Dr. Picker started MOL in 1990 and served as Technical Director for over eighteen years. In that time, H&P and MOL have performed work at thousands of hazardous waste sites in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, several eastern states and the Pacific and expanded to include ten mobile laboratories and three fixed base facilities. Dr. Picker personally designed, assisted in the manufacture, set up instrumentation, operated and staffed eight mobile laboratories and four fixed base labs over the past eighteen years. The laboratories are all currently accredited by the State of California Environmental Lab Accreditation Program (ELAP) as environmental laboratories and NELAP, the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program. Dr. Picker sold his interest in H&P in mid 2008.
- 1989-1990 Pacific Analytical, Carlsbad, CA, Dr. Picker was one of four partners who founded this environmental lab. Dr. Picker joined the lab as an employee in 1989 as marketing and project manager.
- 1986-1989 Hewlett-Packard Co., San Diego, Dr. Picker was as sales engineer for the Hewlett Packard Co. selling and supporting their line of gas chromatographs, liquid chromatographs and mass spectrometers.
- 1981-1986 S-Cubed, La Jolla CA, Dr. Picker was Head of the Chromatography and Wet Chemistry Section. At S-Cubed, Dr. Picker developed a field portable gas chromatograph for the determination of PCB's in dielectric fluid using automated GC pattern recognition. He also proposed and managed a project for the Air Force to design an automated gas chromatograph/data system for the determination of trichloroethylene in water. This system, which was finished after he left S-Cubed was installed at Wurtsmith Air Force base in Michigan. The Air Force later purchased additional systems for other bases. ` At S-Cubed, Dr. Picker proposed a method of extracting contaminant metals from a waste stream. This system was the subject of a grant award from the U.S. EPA and was awarded a U.S. patent. At S-Cubed, Dr. Picker was in charge of gas chromatography at S-Cubed's specially designed Chemical Surety Materials (CSM) facility handling chemical agents in support of chemical munitions destruction. He designed and built an instrument to monitor the "hot room" for air borne agents.
- 1976-1980 U.S Geological Survey, Arvada CO, Dr. Picker conducted research in the water quality laboratory towards his doctoral degree. Research was aimed at novel methods of GC analysis.
- 1973-1975 Analytical Development Corporation, Monument CO, Pesticide residue and metabolism research.
